A particular feature of our successful initiation of integrated coastal zone management is the development of systems that generate economic incentives to ensure a balance between conservation and development.
Seascaping the marine environment under this priority serves to address following issues:
- Restoration of valuable coastal resources, such as coral reefs,
- promotion of coastal recreational and tourism opportunities,
- protection of the shoreline against erosion,
- enabling micro enterprises and income diversification projects in the coastal communities,
- development of small-scale aqua-farming and fisheries enhancement systems
- information of and awareness raising for environmental concerns,
- training and education of the local residents in the sustainable utilization of their coastal resources,
- coordination and communication between agencies, the public, and national-, regional- and international networks and donors,
- finally, it will create ownership by making the coastal resources a local product generated through the coordinated commitment of various stakeholders.
Often it provides a linkage and access to institutional expertise as well as the context for international donor agencies support. This in turn allows us to assist in identifying and mobilising the relevant resources potentially available to the project.
